Certification Specialist

Our client is a municipal department in the Milwaukee area. They are currently interviewing candidates for a key role in their Housing Management department as a Certification Specialist.

The Certification Specialist will be responsible for supporting the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program by processing annual and interim re-examinations for current HCV participants.


  • Meeting with participants by appointment to assess eligibility.
  • Obtaining required documentation files.
  • Determining the participant’s continued eligibility or ineligibility.
  • Assisting with investigations of tenants or landlord program abuse.
  • Identifying overpayments, and initiating repayment agreements.
  • Maintaining records and generating reports related to the HCV program.
  • Auditing files of current participants and new admissions for completeness and consistency.


  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of general office experience in a fast-paced environment; One year job related experience managing a high case load in government or non-profit preferred.
  • Previous experience with HUD preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills; organizational/recordkeeping skills, attention to detail; strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to interview participants, work with the public, participants, and officials professionally.
  • Strong math skills calculating fractions and percentages.
  • Housing Choice Voucher Specialist (HCV) certification.
